There’s something magical about the bond between grandparents and their grandpups. Whether it’s the gentle hand that sneaks treats under the table, the lap that’s always open for a cuddle, or the voice that tells stories with a softness only age can bring—grandparents and dogs share a kind of quiet wisdom and unconditional love that deserves celebrating.
This Grandparents Day, we’re honoring the silver-haired sages and the senior snouts who remind us that love doesn’t age—it deepens.
👵🐶 The Grandparent-Dog Connection
Dogs have a way of bringing out the best in people, and grandparents? They’re already pretty spectacular. Together, they form a duo of patience, kindness, and comfort. Many of our Vroom Grooms clients have shared stories of how their parents or grandparents became unexpected best friends to their pups—teaching them to sit, sharing long porch chats, or simply being a steady presence in a world that moves too fast.
Senior dogs and senior humans often understand each other in ways others can’t. They move at the same pace, appreciate the same naps, and know the value of a quiet afternoon.
🐾 Spotlight: “Dogs of the Day” Grandpaw Edition
This week, we’re featuring a few special “Dogs of the Day” who share their lives with doting grandparents:

  • Beckham & Grandma Lou: Beckham may be a spry little terrier, but he never misses his weekly tea time with Grandma Lou. She swears he listens better than her grandkids—and he never interrupts her stories.
  • Elizabeth & Grandpa Ray: Elizabeth, our regal senior poodle, has a standing date with Grandpa Ray for morning walks and crossword puzzles. She doesn’t help much with the puzzles, but she’s a great foot warmer.
  • Maggie & Nana June: Maggie, our sweet golden retriever, was adopted by Nana June after her husband passed. Together, they’ve found healing in shared routines, gentle grooming sessions, and lots of peanut butter.
💚 Ways to Celebrate Grandparents Day with Your Pup
Whether your dog has a grandparent in their life or you’re honoring one from afar, here are a few ways to celebrate:
  • Memory Lane Walks: Take a stroll through a favorite neighborhood or park and share stories with your pup. They may not understand the words, but they’ll feel the love.
  • Photo Collage: Create a “Generations of Love” collage featuring your dog and their favorite humans—grandparents included.
  • Treat Exchange: Bake dog-friendly treats and human-friendly cookies and host a little tea party for both generations.
  • Senior Dog Spotlight: If you have a senior pup, today’s the perfect day to pamper them with extra love and celebrate their wisdom.
    🐕‍🦺 Honoring Shelter Seniors
Let’s not forget the senior dogs in shelters who are waiting for their forever humans—many of whom might be retired and ready for companionship. Grandparents and senior dogs make a beautiful match: low-key, loving, and loyal.
If you’re considering adoption, think about giving a second chance to a dog who’s already mastered the art of love.

This Grandparents Day, let’s celebrate the gentle souls who teach us to slow down, listen deeply, and love without condition—whether they walk on two legs or four.
From all of us at Vroom Grooms, thank you to the grandparents who love our dogs like their own. You’re the heart behind the wag.
