Vroom Grooms Dogs of the Day — Friday, June 12th

Two Great Pyrenees siblings in the van today, and my arms are still recovering. Here is who I got to spend my day with.

🐾 Lola the Great Pyrenees — The Fluffiest Tripod

Lola is a tripod, and she is also the cutest and the fluffiest little boss I have ever met. The minute I started brushing, she let me know with a little nudge and a look that she was running the show. Not aggressive about it, just clear. She is the boss here.

She was not a fan of the undercoat coming out, and honestly, I do not blame her. Brushing out a thick Pyrenees undercoat is a lot of tugging and pulling, even when the coat is healthy. So we did it the way it has to be done. A little brushing here. A nice scrub in the bath. The high velocity dryer. More brushing. She still had plenty of undercoat left when we wrapped up, because there is only so much two and a half hours can do when the fluff is this deep.

After two and a half hours, my arms were jello, and Lola was feeling it too. We were a matching pair of tired by the end. She is worth every second of it.

🐾 Oliver the Great Pyrenees — Brother, Shorter Coat

Up next was Oliver, Lola’s brother, and much like his sister, he had a lot of undercoat to come out. The big difference was the coat itself. His fur is much shorter than hers, which made the de-shedding go faster and the loose fluff just flew.

I was able to get almost all of the loose undercoat out of Oliver, and he came out of the bath looking sleeker and lighter than he has in a while. He is such a sweet boy. He did share a little of Lola’s stubborn streak, and I would not have it any other way. I have a soft spot for the ones who let me know exactly what they think.

This is a great example of how the same breed of dog can come with very different coats and require very different maintenance. Lola and Oliver are both Great Pyrenees. They are siblings. Their grooming sessions are not the same job twice.

💛 A Note from the Groomer

Two Great Pyrenees in one day is a workout, and I loved every minute of it. Lola ran the show and was clear about it. Oliver was sweet as can be. Same breed, same family, two completely different grooms. That is the fun part of this job.

If you have a double coated breed and the undercoat is starting to win, the best thing you can do is daily brushing to keep the pesky undercoat at bay. Be sure to book in advance to keep the maintenance up. Make sure you are aware of overage fee’s and matted/compact coat fee’s to save your wallet!

Stay fresh and furry,
