Dogs of the Day: Friday, October 9th

Four freshly groomed dogs in a 2x2 grid on an orange plaid background: Lola, a fluffy white-coated dog; Oliver, a cream-coated dog in a red bandana; Khan, a white and tan dog; and Storm, a tan dog with a black mask, each shown in a circular portrait.

Friday’s lineup was a good one: two big white dogs and two pitty goofballs, and not one dull moment in the bunch. There is fluff in places I am still finding fluff. Here is how the day went.

Here is today’s pack:

Lola

Lola is a Great Pyrenees, and she is the biggest fluffy cloud I have ever had up on this table. She is also a three-legged girl, and it does not slow her down for one single second.

Lola’s hobby is testing me. Right in the middle of her groom she decided she was a three-legged superhero and tried to make a flying leap off the table. She was fine — she is always fine — but that is how she ended up cross-body lassoed so I could keep working safely. Cross-body, and not around the neck. That part matters. Always something with Lola.

She is also too smart for her own good. Come bath time, she tried to slip right past me and head back to the table, because she knew exactly what I wanted and she wanted no part of it. She came out about 300% better than she came in, and she is lucky she is as cute as she is.

Oliver

Oliver is Lola’s housemate, and as far as I am concerned that makes them siblings. By the time the two of them were finished, they had sure done a number on my van.

Oliver takes his time — around two hours, in his case — but he makes it easy on me. A lot less brushing than Lola, thanks to that shorter coat, and he wiggled his tail the whole way through his bath. He also made it very clear at the end that he was ready for his snack and his nap.

He did really good today. Some dogs just get it.

Khan

Khan is one half of the afternoon’s pitty pair, and he is a hooligan in the best possible way.

Khan loves attention and he is not subtle about asking for it. He got the special shampoo, he tried to drink my soda, and at one point he was straight-up inhaling the loose fur I was trying to clean up. He is the one I was worried about eating the fluff, and he went the total opposite direction with it.

When I went for his nails, he broke out a kiss attack — the theory being that a dog cannot have his nails done while he is busy kissing the groomer. Nice try, buddy.

Storm

Storm is Khan’s sister, and she is the sweet one of the pair.

Storm got her nails done second, and she spent most of it sitting up against me, panting away. The two of them took their bath together, which comes with one firm rule in this van: nobody is allowed to jump out of the tub. They both just walked on in like it was a spa day, which I love.

No special shampoo for this one — just the regular — and all the important boxes checked. Stormy is a goofball too.

Until next time, my furry friends! Thank you to all the wonderful pet parents who trust me with their best friends. I can’t wait to see who hops onto the grooming table next!
