Earlier this month, I let you know that Vroom Grooms is going to be updating our pricing structure for 2027. Today I want to walk you through the structure itself. Specific pricing is coming in January, but I want you to understand the categories and how the new structure is organized so the actual numbers make sense when they land.
This is the second post in a series about the 2027 pricing update. If you missed the first one, it covers the high-level why: the weight classes and breed ranges are being adjusted, and I want to be transparent about the changes well before they go into effect.
Why Mobile Grooming Is a Premium Service
Mobile grooming is a premium, one-on-one luxury service. Because I am bringing a fully equipped salon directly to the driveway, eliminating your travel time, and providing an exclusive cage-free environment, the pricing has to reflect that convenience. A mobile grooming business generally cannot survive on standard salon rates because drive time limits the total number of dogs that can be serviced in a day. Most mobile groomers enforce an $85 to $100 minimum just to arrive onsite. Here is the pricing structure adjusted for the premium mobile grooming market.
The Three Coat Tiers
Starting in 2027, Vroom Grooms will organize full grooming services into three coat tiers. Each tier reflects the actual time, skill, and supplies required for that type of coat. The tiers are not interchangeable. A short-haired groom is a different service from a long-haired groom, and the pricing reflects that.
Short Hair. This tier covers dogs with short, smooth coats that need a luxury bath, blow-out, and de-shedding treatment. Short-haired dogs do not need haircuts or extensive scissoring, but the bath and de-shedding work is real and takes time. This tier is the most affordable because the service is the most straightforward.
Long & Fluffy. This tier covers double coats and drop coats that require extensive brushing, de-shedding, or outline trimming. The work on these coats is more involved than the short hair tier. The brushing and de-shedding take longer, the trimming takes skill, and the results require more attention to detail. This tier is priced higher than short hair because the work is more complex.
Doodles & Curly. This tier covers high-maintenance curly and combination coats that require full styling, scissoring, and detangling (not DE-Matting). Doodle coats, Poodle coats, and other curly coats are the most time-intensive to groom. They require scissoring for shape, detangling to prevent matting, and regular styling to maintain the coat. This tier is priced highest because the work is the most involved.
The Weight Classes
Each tier will be broken down by weight class. The weight classes are being adjusted to better reflect the actual time and effort required for dogs of different sizes. Larger dogs take longer. Larger dogs use more shampoo, more drying time, and more physical effort. The pricing structure accounts for that.
The new weight classes are tailored to each coat tier. Short Hair splits into Small/Medium (under 40 lbs), Large (40 to 80 lbs), and Extra Large (over 80 lbs). Long & Fluffy and Doodles & Curly run up to five brackets each, from Small (under 30 lbs) all the way to XXL (110+ lbs). Each class has a different price because the work involved is different.
Example Breeds in Each Tier
To give you a sense of where your dog falls, here are some examples of breeds in each tier:
Short Hair examples include Pugs, Boston Terriers, Dachshunds, Beagles, French Bulldogs, Basset Hounds, Labs, Pitbulls, Boxers, Pointers, Mastiffs, Great Danes, and Cane Corsos.
Long & Fluffy examples include Yorkies, Pomeranians, Shih Tzus, Mini Aussies, Shelties, Cocker Spaniels, Huskies, Golden Retrievers, Samoyeds, Malamutes, Bernese Mountain Dogs, Newfoundlands, and Great Pyrenees.
Doodles & Curly examples include Toy Poodles, Bichons, Cavapoos, Mini Doodles, Cockapoos, Miniature Poodles, Standard Poodles, Portuguese Water Dogs, large Goldendoodles, Bernedoodles, Giant Schnoodles, and Saint Berdoodles.
What Is Still Coming
Specific pricing for each tier and weight class will be published in January 2027. The full list of services included in every full groom will also be published in December 2026, well before the new pricing goes into effect.
Clients will not be notified by text or email about the new pricing. Everyone will find out when the blog posts go live and the website is updated. The last time there was a pricing adjustment in 2025, the mass communication caused confusion, so this time the new pricing will only be revealed through the blog, the website, and social media posts. (You will still receive your regular appointment reminders by text when you have a groom booked. The no-notification approach is specifically for pricing and policy changes.)
