Happy Friday, everyone! Today, the mobile spa welcomed a beautiful duo of Great Pyrenees Mixes. While they weren’t exactly jumping for joy to get pampered, they absolutely stole our hearts.
Meet Lola: Our Sweet Tripod
First up was lovely Lola! Lola is a very special girl as she is currently our only tripod doggo. She was a little hesitant to get into the van today, but with a gentle, supportive boost, she made it right inside.
Once it was time for her spa service, Lola pulled out all the stops. She tried giving us all the kisses and turned the cuteness factor up to 100% in a valiant effort to sweet-talk her way out of her bath! Because she was missing a leg, she kept trying to hide her little nub and had a bit of a hard time balancing and standing. Nicole made absolutely sure she was supported, safe, and comfortable the entire time. Nice try, Lola, but you’re leaving clean!
Meet Oliver: Lola’s Brother
Next up was Lola’s brother, Oliver. Oliver was originally just scheduled for a quick nail trim. However, Nicole took one look at his coat and just couldn’t bear to let him leave without a thorough brush-out. This handsome boy was in definite need of some de-shedding!
While working her magic on Oliver, Nicole did a quick skin check and noticed a red patch on his side. Thankfully, upon closer inspection, it just seemed to be an old healing scab. He left looking handsome, trimmed, and feeling so much lighter.
💡 Groomer’s Tip: The Importance of Brushing Double-Coated Dogs
Before we sign off for the weekend, we want to leave you with an important reminder: Please remember to brush your double-coated doggos on a regular basis!
Why is brushing so critical for double coats? Think of a double coat exactly like the insulation in your house. For insulation to work, it needs pockets of air. When a dog’s fur becomes compacted or matted, those air gaps disappear, which means the coat can no longer do what it was meant to do.
Here is what you need to know about keeping that coat brushed:
- Temperature Regulation: If your dog has compacted fur, they cannot effectively regulate their body temperature.
- Preventing Heatstroke: The inability to regulate temperature can cause a dog to overheat. Overheating can happen rapidly, leading to severe organ damage or, tragically, even death.
- Skin Health: Brushing actively spreads natural protective oils and stimulates the skin, which promotes a healthy skin barrier and a gorgeous coat.
- Bonding: Taking the time to gently brush your dog helps build a wonderful, trusting connection between the two of you.
