Saturday is for slowing down. After a long week of work, errands, school runs, cooking, cleaning, and everything else that fills a week, Saturday is the day to breathe out, sit still, and let the dog lead the pace. This is the first post in our new weekly blog rhythm at Vroom Grooms LLC, and Saturdays are going to be about exactly this: winding down, decompressing, and giving ourselves and our dogs permission to just be.
What Saturday Is For
Saturday is not the day to push the dog into a long walk, a busy grooming appointment, or a training session. Saturday is the day to let the dog park the couch with you. It is the day to take the walk that is just a walk, with no destination in mind. It is the day to let the dog sniff every fence post without rushing them past it. It is the day to sit on the floor and let the dog lean against your leg while you scroll your phone. It is the day to do absolutely nothing productive together, because productive is what Monday through Friday is for.
A lot of owners feel guilty when they spend a Saturday “doing nothing” with the dog. Like they should be using the day off for training, or exercise, or socialization. The reality is that dogs crave the same kind of rest we crave after a long week. The dog does not care if you spent Saturday at the dog park or on the couch watching football. They care that they were with you.
Why Decompression Matters
Dogs accumulate stress the same way we do. A week of being home alone during the day, greeting people at the door, walking on busy sidewalks, hearing thunderstorms, getting groomed, going to the vet, playing with other dogs at the dog park, hearing the vacuum cleaner four times — all of that builds up. By the end of the week, even a well-adjusted dog is going to be a little “on.” They might be more reactive than usual. They might bark at things they normally ignore. They might be clingy, or withdrawn, or just plain tired.
Saturday is the day to let all of that drain out. Quiet house, soft voices, long naps, slow walks, gentle brushing if they want it, treats without an agenda. The dog is not the only one who benefits. You benefit too. Spending a slow day with your dog is one of the most reliable ways I know to reset a stressed-out human nervous system.
Good Saturday Vibes With Your Dog
A few ways to keep Saturday low-key:
– Skip the agenda. Saturday does not need a plan. If you planned a hike and the dog wants to lie on the couch, lie on the couch.
– Long morning. Stay in bed a little later than usual. Let the dog sleep in. Most dogs love a slow morning as much as we do.
– One small adventure. Not a big outing. A walk to the corner. A few minutes in the backyard. A car ride to the drive-through for a pup cup.
– Grooming maintenance. Saturday is a great day to brush the dog, check the ears, trim the nails if needed, and just generally take stock of the coat. It is calm bonding time.
– Treats and naps. Treats without working for them. Naps without an alarm. This is the entire vibe of Saturday.
Why Vroom Grooms LLC Is Closed on Saturdays
You may have noticed that Vroom Grooms is not open on Saturdays. That is on purpose. Grooming is a stressful experience for most dogs, even when it is a positive experience. Mobile grooming with the van parked outside is less stressful than a salon visit, but it is still work for the dog. Doing that work on a Saturday would defeat the whole point of the day. So we close on Saturdays. The dog gets the day off. You get the day off. Everyone decompresses together.
If your dog’s grooms fall on Saturdays for any reason, that is a conversation worth having. Most grooming appointments can be moved to a weekday that fits the dog’s rest schedule without any scheduling drama.

Saturday is for the dog and you, doing absolutely nothing in particular together. The week was long. The dog was patient. You both earned a slow day. Wind down, decompress, and enjoy the good and laid back vibes. That is the whole point of the day.
