Meet Eevee: A Cavalier King Charles Spaniel With Stunning Eyes and Endless Energy

Eevee the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel tricolor face closeup after a Vroom Grooms grooming session

Eevee is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and she is the kind of small dog who fills up an entire grooming van with personality. She has the beautiful Cavalier face, the soft coat, and the kind of energy that says she is ready for whatever is about to happen.

Eevee has been a Vroom Grooms client for a while. She is one of those dogs who makes the appointment fun from start to finish.

A Small Dog With a Big Personality

Cavaliers are small dogs but they do not behave like small dogs on the table. They are interested in the work. They are interested in the tools. They are interested in the dryer. Eevee in particular has opinions about the dryer, and she is happy to share them with her whole face.

The energy is real. Cavaliers are spaniels. Spaniels were bred to work alongside people. That breeding shows up at the grooming table. Eevee is not passive. She is participating.

Grooming Notes for Cavalier King Charles Spaniels

Cavaliers have a few breed-specific things that I always keep in mind:

– Their ears are heavy, long, and hold moisture. I clean them and make sure they are dry before we are done. – Their eyes are large and exposed. I always take a quick look and let the owner know if I see any discharge or changes. – Their coat is silky and tangles at the ear fringes, the chest, and the back of the legs. I keep those areas trimmed to prevent matting. – They need brushing at home between grooms. A pin brush and a metal comb work well for their coat type.

Cavalier Health Notes

Cavaliers as a breed have a few health considerations that owners should know about. I am not a vet and this is not a diagnosis, just a groomer observation:

– Heart conditions are common in the breed. Cavalier owners should be working with a vet who knows the breed well. – Eye conditions including dry eye and cataracts can show up as they age. – Ear infections are common because of the heavy, floppy ears.

I always let owners know what I see during the groom. If something has changed since the last appointment, that is information the owner and the vet can act on.

What Eevee Reminds Me

Eevee is the dog I think about when small dog owners say their dog does not need grooming because the dog is small. Every dog needs grooming. Small dogs need brushing, nail trims, ear cleaning, and the occasional bath. Cavaliers especially need ear care because their ear anatomy traps moisture.

Small dog does not mean low maintenance. It means focused maintenance in a smaller package.

Watch Eevee Live

I stream most of my grooms over on Twitch at DogGroomerNicole. Eevee has been on the stream. The face she makes at the dryer is worth the watch.

Real grooming, real dogs, real community.
