Meet Hattie: A Silly-Sweet Bernedoodle With a Whole Lot of Fluff

Hattie, a silver-gray Bernedoodle with a green polka-dot bandana and yellow leash, smiling on the grooming table after her groom.

Hattie is a Bernedoodle, which means curly coat, sweet face, and a whole lot of personality wrapped in that gorgeous silver-gray fluff. She is one of the calmest, happiest dogs I groom, and she always leaves the table looking like she just stepped out of a photo shoot.

Her appointments are easy in the best way. She stands nicely, she lets me work around her ears and feet without fuss, and she is one of those dogs who seems genuinely pleased with herself when the groom is done — like she knows exactly how good she looks.

Bernedoodle Grooming Notes

Bernedoodles have that thick, curly, low-shedding coat everyone falls in love with, and it comes with real maintenance. Hattie’s coat is on the curlier side, which means:

  • She needs brushing at home between grooms or the coat packs into mats fast.
  • She comes in on a regular schedule so the coat stays manageable.
  • Her ears are heavy and hold moisture. I clean them and make sure they are dry.
  • Her feet collect matting between the pads. I trim that hair short.

Why Doodles Are Worth It

Bernedoodles like Hattie are some of the most affectionate dogs on my route. They want to be near you. They want to be part of whatever is happening in the van. Hattie leans into the brushing, watches every move, and greets the towel at the end like an old friend.

That is the tradeoff I make every time. The extra brushing and the thick coat are the price of a dog who is this happy to see me. I am happy to pay it.

What Hattie Reminds Me

Every Doodle teaches me something. Hattie reminds me that a good groom is not just the haircut. It is a dog who trusts the process, a coat that stays healthy between visits, and an owner who puts in the brushing time at home. All three show up in the final result.
