Dogs of the Day: Friday, October 23rd

Today’s theme was technology versus me. The fog rolled in thick enough to hide a moose, the internet went on strike, and Twitch and I had a full argument that I mostly lost. Four dogs still got groomed, so I am calling it a win.

Chilly the Yorkie

First up was Chilly, who is brand new around here. New to the Vroom Grooms pack, new to his family, which is a whole lot of new for one small dog in one week. He is a rescue and he is still working out whether humans are, on the whole, a good deal.

He was not sold on the nail situation. Not even a little bit. We negotiated. There was some discussion. But the rest of the groom went fairly smooth, and by the end he had that look dogs get when they have decided you are not so bad after all. First visit down. Plenty more to come, Chilly.

Cassie the Basset Hound

Then came Cassie, and Cassie is a lot. She is a basset hound, which means she is roughly ninety percent ears and ten percent opinion, and she was full of loves the entire time. Also slobbers. So many slobbers. I came out of that groom with an entirely new skincare routine that I did not ask for.

She was such a good girl though. Bassets have the saddest faces in the animal kingdom attached to the happiest personalities, and Cassie is living proof of both.

Memphis the French Bulldog

Memphis tried to hide behind his dad. Full body concealment attempt. For a French bulldog, this is not a strategy that has ever worked, but he committed to it completely.

Then he found out there were treats involved and the hiding was immediately over. Very excited about the treats. And then the dryer came on and Memphis practically fell asleep. Just fully conked out, warm air going, living his best life. From hide-behind-dad to snoozing through the blowout in a single visit. That is character development.

Mazie the Pug

Last up was Mazie, and Mazie would like everyone to know she is not amused. Not with the grooming. Not with the whole situation. Pugs have a lot of face available for expressing displeasure and Mazie uses every single wrinkle.

She is still afraid of the dryer. That one is real for her, and we do not push it. But she has been doing better and better with every session, and that is the only direction that matters. Slow progress is still progress. Mazie, I will take it.

Until next time, my furry friends!
